Q and A with Richard Hall

Here, Richard explains what Trichology is and how Chester Hair Clinic can help you if you’re suffering with hair loss.

What is Trichology?

“I am often asked “What is trichology?”. My reply is usually the study ,diagnosis and treatment of hair and scalp disorders, although it also covers the overall health of the hair  and how we can maintain it and keep it in good condition.

At Chester Hair Clinic, I often see patients with hair loss conditions. There are three main categories; temporary, permanent and treatable.

Temporary, usually means the condition will improve by itself, given time. Treatable, means there will be a range of options open to you that we can discuss during consultation. Permanent, there is no treatment option other than custom made hair pieces, hair enhancers or wigs”

How can we help clients with hair loss?

“Usually through a range of cosmetic solutions such as wigs, hairpieces or hair transplantation. Hair loss drugs are available. Sometimes improved nutrition is the answer whilst other aspects of lifestyle can also be significant.

The scalp conditions that I encounter range from eczema and psoriasis, to scarring scalp disorders. Some treatments can be offered through the clinic, others need referral to a dermatologist.

‘Hair in health’ refers to our hair care regime, how we treat the hair and the products we use to take care of it on a daily basis.

After consultation, I aim to make a diagnosis and then present the patient with the various treatment options. Sometimes just understanding the condition helps to make the patient feel more in control of the situation, which can be a benefit in bringing the hair or scalp back to health.
